Unlock PDF

Forgot to remove the password from a PDF you created, or need to lift protection from a document you legitimately own? Our free Unlock PDF tool removes the password from PDFs you have the right to open — as long as you know the current password. There is no signup and no fee, and the password you type is used only inside your browser.

Unlocking is useful before merging, splitting, or printing password-protected files, since many tools refuse to process encrypted PDFs. The result is a normal, unprotected PDF that any reader can open without a prompt. Please only unlock files you own or have permission to modify.

FAQs

What if I enter the wrong password?

The tool will tell you the password was rejected. Double-check caps lock and try again — there is no way around the password itself.

Can this remove the password from a PDF I do not own?

No. You must know the current password, and you should only unlock documents you own or are authorized to modify.

Is my password sent to your servers?

Never. Unlocking runs entirely in your browser with local JavaScript; the password is used once to decrypt and then discarded.
